Beef-stuffed gem squash (Gevulde lemoenpampoentjies)

Filled gem squash on a seasoned tray.

Gem squash is part of our South African Sunday lunch culture. Some expats will sell their soul for a gem or two when it is in season. In this recipe I share with you my family’s favourite way of serving gem squash.

Mediterranean sandwich

Mediterranean sandwich wrapped in greaseproof paper. It is cut in half to show off the layers.

With the summer in full swing, these sandwiches provides the perfect summer meal.

White Chicken Lasagna

White chicken lasagna with golden crust and tenderstem broccoli and green beans on a white plate.

There is something so comforting about a slab of lasagna with bechamel and oodles of cheese. This version of chicken lasagna has plenty of different types of cheese and packs a flavour punch!

Peppermint and caramel lasagna (A South African inspired dessert)

Layers of caramel and cream in a glass bowl topped with aero mint chocolate.

No South African household is without a peppermint crisp dessert. This is my take on the old classic.

Boereboontjies (South African green beans with potato)

Boereboontjies which is green beans mashed with onions and potatoes with black pepper.

South African Sunday dinner (boerekos) just hits the spot differently. It is even better with a helping of boereboontjies. You can learn how to pronounce that by clicking on the link!
