An ordinary life with a dusting of luxury.
So the hubby is in the mood for hamburgers – again, and I? Well I fancied a good old pasta bake for a change of tastebuds. So I combined the two and came up with this Hamburger Pasta bake.
So delicious (and well received, I might add) that I had to make it a second time! I have absolutely no measurements here and basically just flung together what I had in the cupboard and our favourite burger toppings.
Hamburger patties
Pasta (your choice, I used spaghetti)
Onions (1 chopped up for the sauce, the other sliced for the topping)
One or two tomatoes chopped up
Dried Oregano
Dried Basil
Ketchup
Mustard
Cheese (I used mozzarella)
Mrs Ball’s Chutney (a South African peach chutney that just goes with everything! You can buy it at selected Sainsbury’s stores)
I’ve put the patties in the oven for 10 minutes at 230 degrees C as I wanted them in defined chunks.

In the meanwhile I’ve caramelised the onions with the help of the tomatoes, ketchup and Mrs Ball’s.

I also cooked the spaghetti to just al dente so that it will not overcook in the oven.
Once the patties had done some time in the oven I chopped them into bitesize pieces and let them fry a little more with the oniony tomato mix to get a nice glazed coating.

Let the layering commence!
I thought it would be fun to drizzle mustard in-between the layers so I started off with a mustard swirl, followed by the meaty mix then the pasta. Mustard graced us with its presence after each layer. Finish the layering with pasta (no mustard this time), then top with cheese and onion before placing in the oven at 180 degrees C for 15-20 minutes.
I served this with some avocado and homemade cheesy garlic bread. I tell you now, this was a winner! Perhaps I should trademark it…?? Just kidding! I had to get the daily prompt word in somehow…
